LeEco Le 2 Review

When you connect with a certain brand you wish to try out multiple products form it. Be it fashion, beauty, lifestyle or technology. The same is the case with phones as well.
I got a chance to try out Le Eco’s Le Max2 and loved it. So did my dad. But he wanted something more suited for his needs and pocket friendly.
LeEco's Le 2 is the ideal Android phone for those who want to make the most of the latest technology without breaking the bank.
Review Of LeEco Le 2 Android Smartphone
Reasonably priced at INR. 11,999/-, LeEco’s Le 2 offers the trademark features of LeEco phones at an affordable price.

LeEco Le 2 Review
Le 2 has an all metal body structure. The build quality is top-grade and one of the best among the Android devices available. Like Le Max2, Le 2 also has a fingerprint sensor, placed at the back, just under the camera. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate and is a convenient way to unlock the phone.

LeEco Le 2 Review
Le 2 has a 16MP rare camera and 8MP front camera. Like Le Max2, the picture quality of Le 2 in daylight and well-lit setting is amazing. The colour reproduction is accurate and the camera manages to capture the minutest of details.
However, low light or night time image quality is not as great as the daylight one. The camera takes longer to focus and the picture quality is just above average.
The 8MP front camera is great for taking selfies and video calls.

LeEco Le 2 Review
Le 2 flaunts a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1080 x1920. The display is sharp and crisp, the colours appear natural and it offers great viewing angles.

LeEco Le 2 Review
One thing commendable about all Le Eco phones is their solid performance and battery life. Plus, the interface is user friendly and easy to adapt.
Le 2 has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable storage, which is highly impressive for a phone in this price range.
Thanks to the 3GB RAM, you can smoothly multitask, watch HD videos, play games, and use multiple apps simultaneously, without the fear of any slowdown, stutter, lag or the phone hanging. The phone does not heat up or stop functioning nor does it require frequent charging even after moderate to heavy usage.

LeEco Le 2 Review
Top notch performance, good battery life, superb display and camera plus free one-year content ecosystem makes Le 2 a very good purchase. You get far more than you pay for.

Plus Side Of Indian Fashion

What does it mean to be a plus size woman in the India?

For starters, you are relentlessly reminded that there is something wrong with your body and you need to change it. You’re told to shrink your body until it fits into the prescribed (narrow) beauty standard.

Next, you need to perform the near impossible, herculean task of finding fashionable clothing that fit your fat body.
Plus Size Fashion Industry Of India
Having worked primarily in the Indian fashion industry for the last ten years as a designer, stylist, consultant and blogger — and as a plus size consumer— I can confidently say that the plus size fashion industry in India is as good as nonexistent.
Fact is, while a large percent of women in India fit into this category, plus size fashion is mostly ignored, overlooked and under-represented.

Fashion’s problem with plus size is a complex issue. It is no secret that the film industry and the fashion industry have constantly equated beauty with thinness. Unfortunately, for the longest time, fashion industry’s outlook has been that plus size and fat bodies are not meant to be celebrated, validated, or seen.
When it comes to plus size fashion, the major problem is the elitist attitude of the fashion industry that believes fashion exclusively belongs to a select privileged slice of the population.
Plus Side Of Indian Fashion
No Plus Size Representation
It is not just the Indian fashion industry that has ignored the existence of plus size women. The is applicable to most industries. Especially, the entertainment and media industry.
Knowingly or unknowingly they have ignored plus size women to such a large extent that we have become invisible. There has been passive discrimination against plus size and fat bodies by formulating most dialogue around thin and straight size bodies only.
This is not restricted to just clothing. From toothpaste to dream vacation and from detergent to mobile network, it is only straight sizes bodies that are visibly using it, selling it and endorsing it.
The question is: would your product not sell if a plus size woman was seen using it and endorsing it?

Globally there are full-figured and plus size women who have broken body serotypes to prove that talent comes in all shapes, sizes and colour. From Adele to Mellisa McCarthy, from Gabourey Sidibe to Tess Holliday and from Ashley Nell Tipton to Gabi Gregg (Gabifresh) plus size and visibly fat women have had immense success in all aspect of fashion and entertainment industry.

On the other hand, Indian entertainment and fashion industry has been plus size averse.
India don’t have a single body positive, plus size role model young girls can look up to and aspire to be like. The complete absences of plus size representation is why a country of 1.25 billion people doesn’t have a single plus size role model. NOT ONE!
Plus Side Of Indian Fashion
We have a handful of plus size people in Bollywood and the entertainment industry. The most recognisable face is comedian Bharti Singh. And she is famous for her self-deprecating, fat shaming brand of humour.
When one of India’s biggest fashion weeks, Lakmé Fashion Week, wanted to host the first ever plus size fashion show in India, they needed to do an open audition. The fact that we don’t have plus size models in the Indian fashion industry speaks volumes about our discriminatory attitude towards plus size bodies.

The dearth of plus size bodies and lack of attractive plus fashion in mainstream Indian magazines is especially disconcerting when you consider that more than 60 percent of women in India wear some amount of plus size clothing.
The only time plus size consumers are represented in fashion magazines is when the magazine does its annual “shape” or “curve” or “body” issues inspire by the global body positive movement or when they want to cash in on the novelty factor. Otherwise, the magazines are mostly devoid of any plus size representation.
Plus Side Of Indian Fashion
The best way to bring about an attitude change towards plus size women is by normalising plus size bodies. This can only happen with equal and fair representations. Plus size women need to be seen alongside straight size women on a regular basis and not once a year.
Celebrating body positivity, body diversity and plus size bodies is not the same as celebrating Diwali, Eid or Christmas. It needs to be done regularly and not sporadically.
Lack Of Plus Size Clothes
I am a plus size woman who loves clothes. I am extremely passionate about about plus size fashion and I try out as many different looks as a I can with whatever limited clothes I can find in my size. But more often than not, a major part of my fashion life is spent yearning for things I can’t have and I am forced to make do with what is available.

What infuriates me most is, brands that have a plus size range internationally don’t retail it in India. Forever 21 has an exclusive plus size range, but it is not available in India. H&M has up to size 20 in limited pieces; haven’t seen the H&M+ range in India yet. It’s one thing if a brand doesn’t cater to larger women globally, another, to have the range available in some countries and not in another.
Worse is, none of the major voices within the Indian fashion fraternity have questioned these brands. No one has asked them why they choose to ignore plus size women of India?
Plus Side Of Indian Fashion
People often tell me, “but you get plus size clothes online. ASOS has great plus size pieces and they do free shipping to India. So, why are you still whining?”
Here’s a scenario: Imagine if you don’t get electricity at your house. But your aunt who lives at the other end of the city does. Why whine about lack of electricity in your own house when you can go to your aunt’s place and use her electricity? Sounds about same, right?
Just because it is available online doesn’t mean we should not demand for more!
Online shopping is a great option but it is not the solution. What about impulse or urgent purchase? Some of us like to try things before we buy it. I don’t have the luxury to walk into a store like a straight size person and get what I am looking for. What is accessible for you is a privilege for me. That basic act of shopping that some have taken for granted is a luxury for me. ASOS may offer free shipping but most global plus size brands are charging quite a bit for shipping. So now, along with fat tax we need to also pay extra for shipping too. Ain’t that unfair?
Not just clothes but basic things like bra is a challenge to buy. Not one sports brand in India has sports bra my size. Same goes for many of the different types of bras. The choices are so limited most of us make do with whatever is available.

If most women in India fall into the plus size category, why do so many designers and brands cater only to women who comprise the 0–12 straight size market?
Truth is, most fashion designers and brands think plus size customers won’t buy what they make, won’t wear it, or don’t deserve it.
Plus Side Of Indian Fashion
It will be completely unfair to say that no Indian brands are catering to plus size customers. We have a few progressive, plus size fashion brands like Alto Moda, All, Westside’s Sassy Soda & Gia that have chosen to to be size inclusive and body positive in their approach.
Indian brands like Global Desi, Biba, AND, Mustard, Fusion Beats and international brands available in India like Marks & Spencer, Dorothy Perkins, New Look, all offer plus size friendly clothing.
While there are few brands in India who are making the effort to be more size inclusive, there is still very limited option for a country with a large plus size population. Most brands – Indian and International – only offer up to size 16, which is the starting size of plus size.
Misrepresentation of Plus Size
Plus size fashion is not only suffering because of lack of representation. Misrepresentation is making it even more hard to normalise plus size and visibly fat bodies.
While plus size starts at size 16, fashion industry often depicts women as small as size 8 as plus size. Not only is this misleading but it pushes real plus size women further into a corner and away from what is essential their space.
The term plus size was created for women who are size 16 and up and/or visibly fat. It is misleading to show a size 10 woman with a slightly protruding tummy or a voluptuous size 12 woman who is sitting on the cusp of straight and plus size as plus size.
The whole misrepresentation of plus size bodies is not restricted to magazines and media. Very often, we see plus size clothes on straight size bodies. If you want a woman who is a size 22 to buy your clothes, you can’t expect a size 12 model to sell it.
When I see plus size clothes that are made for me, I want to see it on a model who looks like me. Not someone who you think I should look like or your interpretation of what a plus size woman should look like.
Showing plus size clothes on non plus size bodies is not only deceptive but also disrespectful towards plus size customers. To get an idea if a certain garment will work for my body type or not I need to see it on someone with a similar body type and not on someone who kind of looks like me, but not really.

We also need plus size voices to be heard. There are no plus size fashion columns advising plus size women what to shop, where to shop and how to style. And if there is an occasional op-ed piece, it is often by a straight size woman rather than a plus size one.
Even brands that keep plus size clothes haven’t made an effort to promote their clothes on larger and plus size bodies. Occasionally, international plus size fashion bloggers get mentioned in Indian magazines but we barely see any Indian plus size blogger in it. The absolute disregard for Indian plus size fashion bloggers and their work by the Indian fashion fraternity shows how prejudiced the industry is towards plus size bodies.

The Future Of Plus Size In India.
The future of plus size in India needs a fundamental attitude change. If we want the plus size industry in India to become a profitable and attractive business, then we need to do a lot more than create a few extra garments.
First off, we need to stop all kinds of size discrimination and have a more inclusive approach. Fashion needs to let go of its elitist approach and constant favouritism of thin bodies. For plus size to become relatable and aspirational, celebrities, models and bloggers of all shapes and sizes need to be promoted equally. Plus size models and bloggers need to regularly be seen alongside straight size ones. On all fronts, plus size needs to move from the margin to the mainstream.

The dialogue has started. Now, the visuals need to match up to it. When talking about plus size, we also need to see plus size and visibly fat bodies as a part of it. That is the only way forward.

When the theme for Met Gala2016 was announced, a lot of people were intriguedby it. What does “Manus xMachina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” really mean. Many wondered, whatdo fashion and technology have in common?
Contrary to popular belief, even before the digital age, fashion and technology have always coexisted together. In fact, technology is applicable in all aspects of fashion. From the yarn stage right up to the finished product, fashion and technology work hand-in-hand.
Taking note of the importance of technology in the field of fashion, Lakmé Fashion Week had a panel discussion on: “How technology is shaping the future of fashion”.
LYF On The Go at Lakmé Fashion Week
As a fashion blogger and digital content creator, my work is predominantly in the digital space. Technology and apps are as important to me as fashion. From clicking pictures to sending mails to updating my social media, most of my work is done on my phone and it is very important for meto have a phone that can keep up with all my needs. And if I am getting all of this at an affordable price – that’s a boon!
LYF Wind 3 Smartphone Review
I recently had the opportunity to try out LYF Wind 3 4G smartphone and I decided to put it to good use at the epicentre of fashion – Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016.

As glamorous as the fashion weeks look from the outside, there is a whole lot of work that goes on behind the curtains. From live tweeting, to Instagram posts, and Snapchat stories, to designer interviews, photoshoot, and dozens of other stuff goes on between the shows. The one thing I need to depend on most is my smartphone. During fashion week days, my smartphone is not just a phone, it is my lifeline. It is very important that I have something that is sturdy and stylish and can last through the day without multiple charging. For fashion bloggers to survive fashion week, we need powerful and high performing smartphones.

Smartsphones have evolved and become far more than just phones. I don’t just use my phone as my primary source of communication and connectivity only. I also use it for entertainment. Many times while travelling or when I’m stuck in traffic, I use my phone to keep myself entertained.
For me, any phone that offers more than just the basic requirements is worth investing in.
LYF On The Go at Lakmé Fashion Week
One of the best part about LYF Wind 3 Smartphone+ is, it comes preloaded with Reliance Jio Apps like My Jio, Jio Play, Jio On-Demand, and Jio Beats that adds value to the phone. These apps paired with Jio preview 4G connection, allows you to seamlessly listen to music and watch videos.

Jio Beats is a music app. It offers HD songs in 20 different languages. Thanks to Jio’s 4G network, you can listen to your favorite songs anytime you like without downloading it or subscribing to third party apps. As a music lover, I need music to unwind and rejuvenate myself, it was always so easy to log in and listen to music on the Jio Beats app between shows at the Lakmé Fashion Week.
If visual medium is more your thing, then Jio On-Demand app is perfect for you. It is a video streaming service that turns your phone into an entertainment device. From movies to TV shows to music videos to trailers, it has it all. The app has around 1 lakh+ hours of HD content. With the Jio 4G network, watching video content was effortless. No buffering whatsoever. The whole viewing process makes you addicted to the app.
LYF On The Go at Lakmé Fashion Week
As much as I like, I just don’t get the time to keep up with all my favourite TV shows. Especially, during Lakmé Fashion Week. Most of the time I end up missing them. This time round, thanks to Jio Play, I could watch my beloved TV shows as and when I wanted. Jio Play brings live TV channels on your smartphone. It offers over 300 TV channels. The best part is, you can pause the live TV program and start from the point you left off. Plus, you get to watch missed episodes of prime shows aired in the last 7 days.
LYF On The Go at Lakmé Fashion Week
Compared to most 4G, Jio 4G has amazing speed. Around 22-23 Mpbs download speed and around 8-9 Mbps upload speed. Which is twice the number compared to all the other 4G data service available in India. Jio 4G has been a boon all through Lakmé Fashion Week for me. Thanks to this high speed, I was able to upload twice as much as I could before. Previously, due to 3G traffic, it would take forever to send a photo tweet and Snapchat stories. With Jio 4G, I could tweet, use Snapchat and Instagram, without any hassle or lag. All my post used to get uploaded within seconds.

Can Plus Size Be Aspirational?

$
0
0
At the previous season of Lakme Fashion Week a designer’s PR manager politely asked me, “can plus size ever become socially acceptable and mainstream? Can plus size be aspirational?”
One would assume, with India finally having its first ever plus size fashion show such questions would be a thing of the past.
No such luck! For someone who has been plus size most of her life, questions like these are common. However, what is infuriating is, the more inclusive the fashion industry strives to become, the louder these questions get.
The one thing that is holding the fashion industry back from including plus size and visibly fat bodies is a set of rigidly imposed rules and norms.
It is the same rules and norms which made us believe that dusky and dark skin can not be beautiful and to be anything in life we all need to be fair and lovely!
Plus Size Fashion Blogger
The real question is: how can something that represents more than 60% of the country’s population NOT be mainstream?
It's no secret that the fashion industry - in India and globally - has long struggled to adequately represent plus size and fat women, failing to offer her quality fashion, fair representation, and excluding her from runway shows and editorials.

Before plus size can become mainstream and aspirational, it first needs to be normalized and socially accepted.
Since plus size and fat bodies have been marginalized for a very long, it needs a serious change in the attitude and narrative. For fashion to become an inclusive industry, we need to fight and end all kinds of size hegemony.

The only way to normalize plus size and fat bodies is by breaking all stereotypes and myths about it.
Let’s start by breaking the most common myth: All plus size women are fat.
This is absolutely not true. All plus size women are NOT fat. But all fat women are plus size. However, that doesn’t stop society from labelling every non-thin woman as ‘fat’.

The first step is to reclaim all negative words and terms associated with plus size bodies.
Plus Size Fashion In India
Who Is Afraid Of The F-Word?
FAT: It is that one word women are indoctrinated to detest. Just a mention of it has then freaking out and there is no bigger insult than being called that. A three letter word that has forced women of all ages to go to war with their bodies. The fear of ever being labeled that has been the root cause of body dysmorphia and eating disorders.
In a thin-obsessed society, being a fat woman is to fail on every single level; it is not just a physical flaw but a moral one as well.

Now, thanks to the fat acceptance movement and fat activism, the word ‘fat’ is losing its negative status. For many of us it is just another word, an adjective, that describes us.  Fat and thin are just descriptors. Neither is fat an insult nor is thin a compliment.
Plus Size Fashion Blogger
“Does This Make Me Look Fat?”
The ultimate aim is to pretend you’re not fat. Instead of telling plus size and fat women to be comfortable with their bodies, women are encouraged to “look slim”, to buy clothes that are “flattering” and to avoid certain type of clothes because they don’t hide the fact that fat women are fat. We have been taught to want to look smaller than our natural size. More often than not, we shun an outfit because it makes us look our real size and is not “flattering and slimming”.
Plus size and fat women need to understand that designers and brands are not magicians. They can’t make your body looks 4 sizes smaller with their clothes.
Let’s face it - If you’re fat, you’ll look fat no matter whatever you wear, and the sooner you accept that, the better.
Indian Plus Size Fashion Blogger
The fear of “looking fat” or being called “fat” has terrorised women to such a large extent that they will torture their bodies to avoid that label. This is also one of the reasons why most plus size and fat women don’t experiment with fashion and deny themselves the joy of fashion.
First, you need to accept you are plus size/fat. Whether or not you choose to label yourself as fat or plus size is your individual choice and not a norm or compulsion. You just need to acknowledge it to yourself.
Once you do that, it will give you the freedom and confidence to dress the way you want for the body you have, instead of trying to dress in ways you think will give you the body you don’t have.
Plus Size Fashion, Body Positivity & Fat Activism
One Size Doesn’t ‘Fit’ All
Even though over 60% of India’s population is plus size, disdain around “the f-word” is one of the main reasons why plus size fashion hasn’t yet managed to gain mainstream momentum in India.
Plus size and fat bodies are often depicted as the unhealthy ‘other’, the unattractive ‘before’, a warning sign for heart diseases and a poster child for obesity epidemic.

Like all forms of media and pop culture, fashion too is a part of the body politics.
Plus size hasn’t been an aspirational look because mainstream media is constantly selling: “Look at this woman. Don’t you want be her?”
Women are not just taught to hate the word fat; they have been brainwashed into believing that being plus size or fat is a temporary point in their life and they should not buy clothes for their body as it is now.
The not-so-subtle message being sent is, for women to participate in fashion they first need to become the ‘after’ picture and they should only buy stuff when they reach a socially and fashionably acceptable weight.
With so much negative stereotyping how can any one expect plus size to be seen as aspirational?
Can Plus Size Ever Be Aspirational?
When you constantly tell plus size and fat women that their body shape should be considered temporary, that their current body is not the body they want, how can you expect them to look at plus size fashion as an aspiration? For then, plus size fashion is a means to an end, something to cover their plus size or fat bodies, not something they want or desire.

Yes, there are many plus size and fat women who are not happy with their shape and size and genuinely want to change it. However, that should not be used as a yardstick or an excuse for all plus size and fat women. Just because some women are not comfortable with their plus size/fat bodies doesn’t mean you assume all women are.
A lot of women have found a balance between fat and fit. I am one of them. I have always strived to be fit and healthy, both, physically and mentally, rather than kill myself trying to be thin. I don’t see thin as a prerequisite for being fit, healthy or stylish.
Fat activist and body positive advocates like me don’t see fat as a temporary phase of our life until we figure out a way to get the ‘perfect body’. My current body is my perfect body. I should not be told to lose weight so I can fit into a top I like. I should not have to workout till my back breaks so that I can fit into a pair of jeans. These things should be available to me, just like they are available for thin women.
Can Plus Size Ever Be Aspirational?
Why Plus Size Fashion Matters
Here’s how plus size brands play a significant role in changing fashion industry’s attitude towards plus size and fat bodies. Unlike other brands, they have chosen to create clothes for a marginalized section of society. In a way, plus size brands are also making the most invisible woman, visible. Props to them for doing that.
The pertinent question is, are the clothes created by plus size brands tasteful and fashion forward? Are they aspirational? Or are they just easy-to-make, tacky clothes with questionable aesthetics. Are plus size and fat women who are buying your clothes happy with it or are they craving for something better and stylish?
A question every plus size fashion brand and designer needs to ask: are my clothes a convenience because of size availability or are they a choice because of good aesthetics? Will women of all sizes buy them?
Globally, plus size and fat women are leading the body positive and fat acceptance movement. Fashion designers like Ashley Nell Tipton and Christian Siriano, plus size fashion brands like Lane Bryant, Eloquii and Torrid, magazines like Volup2, Slink and PLUS Model Magazine and events like TheCurvyCon are constantly breaking stereotypes and pushing towards making fashion more inclusive and diverse. There has been a conscious effort to create a space where plus size and fat women can express themselves, share their stories and celebrate their bodies.

Indian Fashion Industry Needs A Fundamental Change In Attitude
Unlike the west, plus size fashion in India is still struggling to find its footing. While baby steps have been taken in a positive direction, by large, plus size and fat women have no real representation.
While some of us have been speaking about lack of size diversity and representation, our voices don’t really get heard nor does our work get noticed. There has hardly been any effort from the Indian fashion industry to include vocal body positive and fat activist into their narrative. In India, plus size and fat women like me are barely seen, hardly heard and never applauded. In the current social climate, the only time plus size and fat bodies are seen is when a brand or magazine want to create a social buzz. Otherwise, we are relegated to the back of the line.
This needs to stop!
A serious attitude change is needed towards plus size and fat bodies. I have said this before and I say it again, lack of representation is the biggest hurdle for plus size fashion in India.
Until you don’t represent plus size and fat bodies in a positive light how can you expect plus size to become mainstream and be considered aspirational.
All around the word, it has been plus size fashion blogger, body positive advocates and fat activist who have fought to have their voices be heard. We need to do the same in India.

Can Plus Size Ever Be Aspirational?
Yes! First thing first, we need stop glorifying skinny and thin bodies and treating fashion as a thin privilege; an exclusive club where only a select few have access to it. We need to stop celebrating only thin bodies and and we need to stop looking at plus size and fat women as the “ugly, unhealthy other”. We’re not that.
We need to change the narrative, create space for a new, inclusive narrative and let women of all sizes have a stake and say in it.

5 Labels Every Woman Should Invest In

$
0
0
The other day I chanced upon an article that suggested, “The 10 Labels every woman in her 30s must invest in”.
As someone who has spent enough time in the fashion industry, I am no stranger to such a list. Every fashion magazine and website is busy telling women what to invest in. What are the things that will transform their life. What are those must-haves without which they are incomplete.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, I have decided to share a list of my must-have labels. I have worked very hard at compiling this list. It has taken me years to figure out which labels are the right match for me. Personally, I feel every woman should get herself well acquainted with these 5 labels and start investing in them.
FEMINIST
I identify myself as a feminist.  I am blessed to be surrounded by many women and men who also identify themselves as feminist. Sadly, there are quite a lot of women and men who shy away from using the word “feminist”. Some find it too harsh, too complex and others think it is not inclusive. So they opt for generic terms like humanist and equalist.
I’ve heard enough people ask, “Why do you call yourself feminist? Why don’t you just say you’re a believer of human rights and equal rights for all?”

One of the reason some people shy away form using the term and/or identifying themselves as feminist is because it has the word “fem” in it. While you may dislike the word, remember, feminism started as a women’s rights movement that aimed to get equal political and legal rights for women.
Calling feminism by any other name would be doing a major disservice to what the movement stood for and the significant impact the movement has had on women and men’s lives.
Using generic terms like humanist and equalist instead of feminist is to deny the specific and particular problem with gender. It would be a way of pretending that it was not women who have, for centuries, been oppressed, marginalised and excluded. Yes, feminism is a part of human rights, but it is also very much about women’s empowerment and emancipation.

It’s the feminist movement that fought for women’s rights to education, vote, inheritance, to get an abortion, marry anyone of your choice, work and report rape. So while you enjoy your rights, not so long ago, most of them were just male privilege.
It was the feminist movement that worked at freeing women and men from the shackles of patriarchy and decided that women have had enough and will not be treated as second class citizen.
While most of them did not get to enjoy the fruits of their hard work, what gave them faith is that their legacy will be carried on. That the next generation will be a step closer to fulfilling their dreams and goals of gender equality.

For me, feminism is a way of life and I take great pride in calling myself a feminist.
OPINIONATED
A guy once told me, “You’re very high maintenance woman, Amena.”
Back then I never understood why he used that one specific term to describe me. However, I was well aware that it was a pejorative term. Over the years I have noticed this term is often used for women who are extremely opinionated. Women who don’t shy away from asking for more. Women who raise their voices. Women who take up space and make noise. The reality is, nothing scares the patriarchal society quite like an opinionated woman who is not afraid to stand up for herself, her rights and call out what is wrong. A woman who is vocal about her needs and desires, who is not ashamed to voice her views, even if its an unpopular one. An opinionated woman is one who doesn’t hesitate to say no, is not shy of getting angry and demands what is rightfully hers.

Since time immemorial society has worked very hard at silencing women. Their views, feeling, and opinions were never really taken into account. And whenever a woman did raise her voice she was called names and silenced.
Thanks to the feminist movement, women now have a voice. They are free to express themselves. The more women freely express their views and opinions, the better.
Being an highly opinionated woman doesn’t make you a bad person or a diva or a drama queen, in fact, being highly opinionated woman makes you a strong person.

AMBITIOUS
Since we are little girls we are taught that we have limits. You can do this, but this is your limit. You can’t cross it. The limit is so ingrained in us that we normalise it. We grow up keeping that in mind. We are raised to believe at some point in life we need to compromise, adjust, and be more flexible.
We are constantly asked to shirk ourselves to fit in. Shirk our thoughts, views, bodies, ambition and desires. Being an overtly ambitious women is often frowned upon. A woman who puts her needs, her career and wants before everything else is often shamed and called selfish for doing so. Instead of celebrating female ambition, we shun it.
Indian pop culture is full of examples where women with too much ambition are the “bad, other woman”, often depicted as the conniving vamp or characterless home wrecker.
This has to stop. Women should not be shamed for being ambitious. There is no such thing as too much ambition. We need to stop telling girls that having it all is a fairy tale. That at some point it is this or that, but never both.
We never tell our boys that too much ambition is a bad thing. Boys are taught to exalt, soar, climb and strive. They are pushed to excel, they can have it all and then some more!

We need to stop teaching girls to compromise, adjust and be more flexible. And encourage then to aspire for more. We need to teach girls not to be ashamed of asking for more. Wanting more. Demanding more. There is nothing wrong, shameful or selfish about having ambition and putting your needs and wants ahead of others.
INDEPENDENT
For centuries women have been depended on the men in their life for everything. Not always by choice but because women had very little agency over their own life and body. From what to wear to whom to marry, all the decisions were taken by the men in their life. What women felt, thought or needed was never even taken into consideration.
With the advent of  the feminist movement, women were finally able to take control of their own life. Over the years more and more women have become self-reliant and independent.
From being financially independent to sexually liberated to emotionally uninhibited, women are finally in control of their own life and bodies.
BODY POSITIVE
One of the most politicised things in the world is the female body. From what we should wear to how we should look to what we should do with our reproductive organs, everything is up for debate. For the longest times women have been told that to fit in they need to look a certain way, have a certain kind of body and speak in a certain manner. Anyone not conforming to these rules was always castigated. Over the years women realised these rules are nothing but patriarchal society’s way of controlling women and restricting them. Women soon realised that self-love and acceptance is key to women’s empowerment and emancipation.
Instead of hating the way they look women finally started embracing their bodies.
Body positivity is that radical notion that all bodies are good bodies. Bodies of all sizes deserve to be respected, loved and represented.
The body positive movement has worked hard at normalising all, especially non-thin, plus size and fat bodies that have been marginalised. The movement has opened up a new dialogue on self-love, fitness and eating-disorder. Most importantly, it is working towards a more inclusive society.

Whether you are skinny, thin, regular, plus size or fat - you can be body positive at every size. Body positivity is for everyone. However, being body positive doesn't just mean loving and respecting your own body. It mean respecting ALL body types and sizes. It means celebrating ALL body types and sizes. It means representing ALL body types and sizes. It means making space for marginalised bodies – People of colour, transgender, fat people and differently-abled people - and letting them have voice and visibility too.

The term label often has a very negative connotation. However, I don’t think all labels are bad. In fact, many of them have a positive impact. For me, the above 5 labels are a part of my identity. They have contributed into making me who I am.  These labels function as positive affirmation that have helped me become a better and stronger woman.

Beauty Box | Smoky Eye And Red Lip With Oriflame

$

Much like your favourite saree, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,  and mangoes and fresh cream in summer, a smoky eye and red lipstick look is a timeless classic. It is one of those looks that works for everyone and every mood. Best part- depending on the occasion, you can go for a full glam look or a subtle one.

Over the years I have experimented a lot with my makeup and tried out different looks. But this combination by far is my most favourite look.
When I got an opportunity to try out Orifame’s latest The One Lip Sensation Vinyl Gel, I knew exactly the look I was going to go for. I wanted to create a look that would make a lasting first impression, a look ideal for a fun night out or a party or a celebratory occasion.
However, instead of going for run-of-the-mill black smoky and bold red matte lips look, I decided to give my own spin to it.
For my look I opted for the shade Sunset Burst. This is a vibrant red with pink and coral undertones. For someone who is not the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks, I was very impressed with the Vinyl Gels. The liquid lipstick has a fluid velvety texture that is smooth on application and doesn’t feel heavy on the lips. Most importantly, it is not sticky or greasy.
The Vinyl Gels are well pigmented. For a sheer look, one swipe is suffice. For an ultra glossy opaque look, 3-4 swipes will get the job done. The liquid lipsticks have good staying power and can easily last up to 4-5 hours without any touch up.
The Vinyl Gel liquid lipstick is a perfect blend of well-pigmented, opaque lipstick and plexigloss finish.
Once I had decided the lipstick colour, my entire look was built around it.
For the base I used The One IlluSkin Face Primer and applied it with Professional Concealer/Lip Brush. That was followed with The One IlluSkin Foundation in Nude Pink shade applied with the Professional Foundation Brush. This brush moves effortlessly on the face and blends the foundation well into the skin. Next was The One IlluSkin Concealer in Fair Light shade and The One Loose Powder applied with the Professional Powder Brush. Finally applied Oriflame Giordani Gold Bronzing Pearls in Natural Peach as an illuminator using the Blush Brush. This is a multi-purpose brush. It is ideal for applying highlighters and illuminators as well as applying blush and blending concealer and foundation.

People don’t realise it, but brushes play a pivotal role in makeup.  I was pretty impressed with Oriflame’s Professional brushes. Application was effortless with them and there was no fear of the makeup looking patchy or unblended. The brushes have been designed to work out every minute detail.
Like I mentioned, instead of a traditional black smokey eye, I decided to go for a gold and brown smoky eye look instead.
Using the Professional Double-ended Eyeshadow Brush I have used Golden Brown and Rose Gold The One Colour Impact Cream Eye Shadow and two shades from the Giordani Gold Eye Shadow Radiant Plum Quad on the eyelids and created the winged effect with The One Eye Liner Stylo in Black.
For the waterlines, used the Deep Indigo The One Colour Impact Cream Eye Shadow and The One Eye Shadow Pencil Smokey - Jet Black. Polished this smokey eye look off with The One Volume Blast Mascara in Black and set the eyebrows with Professional Eyebrow Brush.
Completed the look by removing eye shadow powder residue from under the eyes with the Professional Fan Powder Brush.
For this look, I was inspired by classic red carpet Hollywood glam. I wanted to create a look that would make an impression and impact. This look does just that. It makes a statement without being over-the-top.
This look would not have been possible if not for my dear friend Raquel-Ann Dsouza. Along with being an amazing friend, Raquel-Ann is one of the most talented makeup artist and hairstylist I know. She knows exactly what will look good and will make you look like the best version of yourself. A true artisan in her craft, you can confidently trust her to give you the best makeup and hairstyle.

I Am Done Apologising For The Way I Look

$

When you spend more than half your life living in a fat body, you systematically get conditioned to seeing yourself the way the world views you. As much as you want to, there comes a time where you cannot discrete yourself from the grander cultural narrative that is associated with plus size and fatness.
Especially, the way Indian fashion industry perceives it.
Plus Size Fashion Blog India
While the world has started to get vocal about body positivity and fat acceptance, India is still sitting on the side-lines, occasionally celebrating the ‘curvy’ or ‘chubby’ or ‘full-figured’ woman.

A country that has more than 50% of its population as plus size and fat, it is extremely important to have regular dialogue about body diversity, body positivity, and fat acceptance. The need of the hour is to break all age old plus size and fat stereotypes and prejudices and educate people rather than body and fat shame them. We cannot have yet another generation going to war with their own bodies and trying to conform in a world that worships being thin.
I Am Done Apologising For The Way I Look
I Am Fat and I Am OK With It!
For a little over two decades, I have tried every trick in the book to not be me. Not that there was anything wrong with me per se. The problem was with me being a fat girl in a fat hating world.
You see, when I was growing up, there was no bigger insult that being called fatThere was always that occasional fat joke thrown my way. Or random remark made about my size and weight. There were times people would stop seeing me as Amena, a human being, and see me as an object that needs to be mocked solely because of her shape and size. If they had nothing to tell me they would just throw a fat slur my way that would cut me off at the knees and I would go from being feisty to fragile.
Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
Anyone who has been on the opposite side of conventional thin has experienced fat shaming in some way or another. They can tell you instances of being bullied, called teasing names, put in a corner and made to feel like an outsider.
There comes a point when the voices outside your body get so loud that you eventually start believing them. I let those voices control me for far too long until it was a matter of sink or swim. I chose to swim the tide of fat shaming and make it to the other side. I am glad I did it. Once you let go of self shaming, you start seeing life from an all new perspective.

Over the years, ‘fat’ has lost its negative connotation for me. Now, it is just another word, an adjective, that describes me. I see fat and thin purely as descriptors. They are not an abomination or an aspiration. I don’t get offended when some calls me fat. Nor do I get happy when someone says, “Have you lost weight? You’re looking thin”. I am done with all kinds of body shaming.
Body Positivity and Fat Acceptance
Yes, Plus Size Fashion Blogger Is A Real Thing
Back in 2012, during my rookie days as a fashion blogger, someone politely asked, “Are you a fashion blogger? You don’t look like a fashion blogger!”
The blatant assumption that all fashion bloggers, like models, are the same size - aka thin - is a biased generalisation. Blogging started as a way to express yourself. It gave women and men of all shapes, sizes, colour, sexuality and race a space to share their personal style and views. The bedrock of fashion blogging is diversity and to exclude plus size and fat bodies from it is unfair.
For every fashion magazine that reinstates that style comes in only one size, blogging offers an alternative narrative instead.
After years of believing that nothing will flatter my fat body expect tunic top and leggings, I was finally free to make sartorial choices as I pleased. Blogging empowered me to wear what every fashion magazine for years had denied.
Plus Size Fashion Blog India
Can I Have Some Clothes, Please?
When I decided to make the switch from fashion designing to fashion blogging I knew it would be different and difficult. I was not ready for discriminatory.
During my initial blogging days, I used to love attending collection previews. Not only did you get to see the new collection before everyone else, you also get to try it. I was overjoyed with this idea.
Soon my enthusiasm would turn into an uncomfortable moment for me and the brand as there was never anything that would fit Amena. “Sorry, we just don’t keep anything in your size. Would you like someone else from your team to wear this instead?”
Earlier, I would say it’s all good and agree to just pose with the clothes rather than wear them. Now it’s a firm no. If I don’t get my size, then I don’t care to be a part of it.
On many occasions I have asked brands why do they not get a tad bit plus size inclusive; there are people over size 14-16 in India. Most of then were polite and would say, yes, good suggestion, and move on, however, one brand manager was honest with me and said,“No offence, but we don’t want fat people to be seen in our clothes. That would not go well with our core audience.”
This was a major wakeup call. I have been indirectly promoting those brands that choose to look at me and women like me as less than equal, unworthy of their clothes. To think that plus size and fat women wearing their clothes brings down its brand value is not only discriminatory but also incredibly offensive.
Ever since then, I have stopped associating with that brand. On principle I can not promote something that does not believe in diversity.
One can look at their choice as a preference and not a prejudice. But imagine if they said the same thing for race or sexual orientation. That their clothes are only for white people or straight people. Would we still look at it as a preference?
As a blogger, I have the freedom to pick and choose who I want to work with. And I choose not to work with brands that are fatphobic and not democratic about size.
I Am Done Apologising For The Way I Look
In the last year, Indian fashion industry has made some efforts towards size inclusiveness. However, It’s high time Indian fashion industry finally embraces body diversity and becomes body positive.

I long for a time where it will be normal — and not ground-breaking — for brands, fashion weeks, and magazines to feature plus size/fat women and men. The effort for equal and fair representation of plus size and fat bodies is a must. The only way we can end body and fat shaming is by normalising all bodies instead of glorifying a specific type.
Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
It has taken me a few years to undo years of body and fat shaming. To be able to look in the mirror and be okay with what I see. The journey has been tough, but the end result has been the best thing that has happened to me.
I am done apologising for the way I look. I am perfectly happy being a fat woman and a plus size fashion blogger. I am proud of all that I have achieved with the limited available options. I have made peace with who I am. About time everyone else does the same too.

Plus Size Fashion | Minimalist Style, Maximum Impact With Amydus

As someone who loves vibrant colours, bling, statement prints, and embellished tops, “basics” and “boring” have always been synonymous and interchangeable in my mind. I mean, why would you wear a plain shift dress when you could wear a layered, colour block ensemble? But since I started fashion blogging, my personal style has evolved extensively and I’ve stopped looking at every basic thing as boring.
Minimalist Style, Maximum Impact With Amydus
After spending years wearing only track pants and T-shirt or tunic and leggings and being deprived of quality, fun fashion, I was not ready to go back to wearing anything basic, minimalistic or in neutrals. However, since last year I have been reinventing my wardrobe and investing in minimalistic pieces that can be mix, matched and layered. Pieces that look good on their own as well as pair up easily with other pieces and accessories.
Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
The first time I visited Amydus website this olive green princess seam shift dress caught my fancy. Chic and stylish, the dress is the epitome of minimalistic style and maximum styling potential. Before I started fashion blogging I hadn’t worn a dress in years and certainly not a simple button-front shift dress. I would not even give a second glance to anything that was not in a pop colour or vivacious print, and certainly not something in a solid neutral shade. Basically, anything that was not statement making was off the table. And yet, the sheer simplicity of the dress is why I instantly fell in love with it.
Minimalist Style, Maximum Impact With Amydus
For this look, I wanted the focus to be on the dress itself. Instead of layering it, I decided to pair the dress with contrasting colour pop accessories, statement silver necklace and an oversized tote. The overall look is a fine balance of simple and statement.
Amydus - Indian Plus Size Fashion Brand
Granted, plus size fashion options in India are painfully limited but Amydus is one of the few size inclusive and diverse plus size brands that is trying to bring about a change and offering affordable and fashionable clothes for plus size and fat women like me. And unlike other plus size brands in India their sizes don’t end at size 22. Amydus sizes go up to UK 26 and 7XL, offering a wide range of size and style.
Amydus - Indian Plus Size Fashion Brand
One of the main reasons why I am extremely impressed with Amydus’s collection is because most of the pieces are well-designed, minimalistic with a girl-on-the-go vibe that, when combined with bolder accessories, is pretty perfect for the modern Indian woman. They’re the kind of outfits that can easily be glammed up or can be kept casual and simple depending on the occasion.
Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
As a plus size woman I’ve grown up being told and believing I need to hide my body and not bring any attention to it. And because of that I kept away from anything that would make my fat body visible or attract attention.
After years of forced minimalism –  first, due to the fear of wearing something that would make me look “more fat” and then due to lack of stylish and quality plus size fashion in India – I had decided that I would never ever wear anything that is simple, basic or in neutrals colours. Anything that so much as looked minimalistic was a big no-no.
Plus Size Fashion Blog India
For me, wearing “simpler” ensembles has always been a bit of a challenge. As a plus size woman and fashion blogger, I feel like my outfits and my looks have to be “interesting” in order for me to considered stylish enough and have an impact in the fashion blogging community.
Amydus - Indian Plus Size Fashion Brand
For years, I had conditioned myself to believe that basic and minimalistic outfits were not for me and for me to stand out I need to either layer or glam up my looks. But the truth is that I don't always want to dress in the bold pieces or layered looks, I really don't. My real life isn't always colourful tunics and jackets and statement accessories.
Minimalist Plus Size Look
Amydus Dress | Accessorize Bag | Converse Sneakers | Swarovski Bracelet | MAC Ruby Woo Lipstick | L'Oreal Paris Superliner Waterproof Gel Eyeliner | Maybelline Volum Express Colossal Waterproof Mascara
I've finally learnt that minimalism and simple ensemble can be as much fun and interesting as statement or layered ones. That simple does’t always translate to boring and one doesn’t need glam up at all time to look stylish.
Sometimes it's all about a chic and simple dress. And I'm loving this one and the confidence it gives me.

Debunking Plus Size Myths With Afamado

$

0

Plus size women are everywhere. We’re teachers and writers, designers and scientists, lawyers and moms. And yes, contrary to popular belief that plus size women cannot be fashionable and stylish, some of us are fashion bloggers.
Debunking Plus Size Myths
Existing as a plus size woman in society that is hell-bent on ignoring you and making you invisible is nothing less than an act of rebellion itself. But it doesn’t stop here. On a daily basis we are bombarded with overwhelming misconceptions and myths about our bodies and lifestyle. From internet doctors giving us lectures about our health to garden-variety fatphobes telling us what we should and should not wear.
Everyday some new plus size myth crops up that adds to the growing fatphobia in our society. If we really want to end size based discrimination and prejudices against plus size bodies, it is important to debunk and bust the most common plus size myths.
Dresses For Plus Size Women
Plus Size Is A Temporary Size
Since a young age women have been conditioned to aspire to look a certain way. And their body size is an integral part of it. Women have been made to believe that for them to be considered beautiful and desirable they have to be thin. Anything other than thin is unacceptable. Because we are so condition to seeing thin as an aspiration and the biggest achievement, many people, including fashion industry insiders, believe that plus size is a temporary size and all plus size women want to lose weight and be thin and no woman really wants to be plus size for life.
It is an age old myth that all plus size women see themselves as a body in transition. That they see their current plus size as temporary that will eventual change. Not only is this thinking problematic but also very harmful.

Here’s a fact: While many plus size women are unhappy with their bodies and do everything in their power to change it, many of us are very happy in our plus size bodies. Not all of us are aspiring and striving for a single-digit size. Some of us are happy with our double-digit size and plus size bodies. For us, plus size is a permanent size.
Indian Plus Size Brand Afamado
Plus Size Women Don’t Shop Plus Size
I work in the fashion industry. And not since the past few years when I started blogging, but for a good 8+ years - since I started my career as a fashion designer. From my days as a fashion student to now, I have been told and made to believe that plus size women don’t like to shop and dress up. Back then, the plus size market in India was non-existent. But now, with the plus size market booming globally, many people in India still hold on to these antiquated views.
The biggest accusation against plus size women is, they don’t spend money on plus size clothes. The truth is, first, plus size clothes are not easily available in India, and second, the few that are available are frumpy, shapeless and downright boring. No woman in her right mind would spend money on those clothes, and yet, so many of us do, not out of choice but out of necessity.
The sad reality is; the fashion industry takes plus size consumer for granted. Instead of offering her with well-designed, quality fashion, like they do for straight size, they create tasteless clothes that are neither stylish nor interesting.
Plus size women love to dress up and are just as willing to spend like straight size women. We too deserve quality fashion that makes up look and feel good. Time the fashion industry took note of that.
Busting Plus Size Myths
Plus Size Women Are Glorifying Obesity
One of the biggest allegation against plus size people and the body positive and fat acceptance movement is that it glorifies obesity. Ever since the movement has gone mainstream and plus size women have gotten more visible and vocal, the allegation has grown too.
Anytime a plus size/ fat woman decides to unabashedly celebrate herself and her fat body by promoting self-love and self-acceptance, she is blatantly fat shamed and often accused of glorifying obesity.
This is hands down the biggest myth about plus size people and the body positive and fat acceptance movement as well.
Plus Size Fashion Blog India
The term “glorifying obesity” is nothing but a dog whistle used against plus size and fat people with the aim to silence them. We all know health is subjective and one cannot just look at someone and decide if that person is healthy or not, fit or not. But that doesn’t stop people from fat shaming plus size and fat people in the name of health and fitness.
If promoting self-love and self- acceptance at any size is considered as glorifying obesity, then yes, plus size people are glorifying obesity.
Corissa Enneking of Fat Girl Flow perfectly sums up what glorying obesity really mean: “I am glorifying obesity. I am glorifying this body that does not, and has never, got enough praise for its existence. I am glorifying the rebellion I live each day while loving this body. I am glorifying the pounds I gained after years of starving myself. I am glorifying every moment I am alive in this body that others would discard as worthless. And I am extremely proud of myself. So I celebrate that by sharing my life and my experiences with other people. Amazing people.”
Body Positive India
When I started blogging in October 2011, plus size fashion and plus size fashion blogging, both were considered as niche. Very often the only plus size blogger to be present at an event, I would feel like the odd woman out. On multiple occasions I would not have anything good to wear to these events and I would end up not attending them because of it.

Now, when I see the plus size fashion industry in India make its presence felt it gives me great hope. Up and coming size-inclusive brands Afamado is one such brand. With the aim of promoting body positivity and size-diversity, the brand is offering plus size and fat women what they have been deprived for a long, long, time – stylish and quality fashion. The clothes are beautifully designed and well-fitted (they offer customisation as well), Afamado is the go to brand for trendy plus size clothes, especially dresses and gowns.
The best part is, they are not just breaking plus size myth, they are busting plus size fashion myth too. They are offering plus size and fat women a plethora of choices that is colourful, sexy and so very chic. Their clothes don’t look like shapeless garbage bag or printed tent. None of that here. Afamado’s clothes are structured, on-trend and aspirational. Their clothes aren’t made to hide your body. Their clothes are made to flaunt your curves, give you confidence and make you feel like a million bucks.

Himalaya Youth Eternity Range

I’ve to be honest – I’ve never been one of those who invested too much time and energy in my skin care routine. Partly because I have oily combination skin, and partly because I’ve never found any products that really made much difference to my skin. However, since I turned 30 I’ve been more careful with my skin care. While I haven’t made it a habit to buy every new product that hits the market, increasingly, I’ve made an effort to try out products that may work for my skin type.

No stranger to Himalaya products - I swear by their anti-dandruff shampoo – I was quite keen on trying out their new Youth Eternity Range. When it comes to quality and price point, Himalaya has been consistent. Staying true to its core philosophy, Himalaya has always been nature-derived, finding the best of nature and creating products that are natural and pocket friendly.

Himalaya Youth Eternity Range
Himalaya's newly launched Youth Eternity range has been specially formulated using stem cells from the Edelweiss Plant. The stem cells are combined with herbal active extracts of flowers like Rose Myrtle, Fire Flame Bush, Woodfordia and Cipadessia Baccifera, to hydrate and regenerate your skin. The range consists of day cream, night cream and under eye cream.
Himalaya Youth Eternity Range
I’ve been using all three products for over 2 weeks now and I’ve gotten positive results. As someone with very oily and combination skin, I found the creams, especially the night cream to be very effective.

Himalaya Youth Eternity Day Cream
Himalaya Youth Eternity Range
The Himalaya Youth Eternity Day Cream has a light and non-greasy texture. It gets absorbed easily into the skin without leaving an oily residue. For my oily combination skin type, the day cream provides me with adequate hydration without making my skin look shiny.
Himalaya Youth Eternity Day Cream comes with SPF 15 and is priced at  ₹499 for 50ml (Also available in 10ml & 20ml size).

Himalaya Youth Eternity Night Cream
Himalaya Youth Eternity Range
Compared to the day cream, Himalaya Youth Eternity Night Cream is richer, offering more nourishment. Like the day cream the night cream too has a non-greasy texture. The night cream works overnight to provide intense hydration, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, leaving your skin even-toned and healthy.
Himalaya Youth Eternity Night Cream is priced at ₹499 for 50ml.

Himalaya Youth Eternity Under Eye Cream
Himalaya Youth Eternity Range
Unlike most eye creams that are rich and heavy, Himalaya Youth Eternity Under Eye Cream has a very light texture. It is almost like a gel-cream that is rich in anti-inflammatory properties that nourishes and hydrates the tender skin around the eyes, helps reduce dark circles and fine lines. After using the under cream for over 2 weeks I’ve noticed my under eye region looks more bright and healthy.
Himalaya Youth Eternity Under Eye Cream is priced at ₹525 for 15ml.
Himalaya Youth Eternity Range
What I liked the most about Himalaya Youth Eternity Range is, that all the products are packaged in a travel friendly manner and all of them have anti-inflammatory properties. All three products in this range have stem cells from the Edelweiss plant and extracts from exotic plants and herbs. Plus, all the creams have a rich texture but neither of them leave an oily or sticky residue. The best part about this range is, the products are free from parabens and phthalates.
Himalaya Youth Eternity Range
If you are looking to start an anti-aging skincare regime, The Himalaya Youth Eternity Range is a good one to start with. These products can easily be used by women in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
Ideal for all Indian skin types and Indian weather, The Himalaya Youth Eternity Range is for every woman who is aims to have healthy and glowing skin.

Plus Size Fashion | Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone

Wedding season is here – and it is here in full swing. This year I decided to change things around. Instead of going with traditional silk and embroidered pieces, I wanted to create a few looks that are not heavily embellished but still have a rich and luxe look. Plus, unlike traditional Indian wedding wear that can’t be repeated frequently, I wanted to invest in something that would be multi-occasion friendly.

Plus Size Wedding & Festive Outfit
Plus Size Indian Fashion

2017 has been my year of stepping out of my style comfort zone and taking sartorial risks. One of the main reasons why I was able to do that is because of the growing plus size fashion industry in India. Brands are finally understanding the needs of plus size women and realising that we too deserve stylish and trendy clothes. I was able to make a drastic change to my wedding season wardrobe mainly because I was lucky to find on-trend and chic Indian wear pieces.

From pretty prints to stylised silhouttes, Amydus has wide variety of tunics. While looking for something that is is both classic and at the same time statement making, this front slit, overlap tunic in deep green shade caught my fancy. It was unlike any other tunic I had seen in a while. However, as much as I loved it, I was not sure if I was ready to wear something that draws attention to my belly.

Amydus - Indian Plus Size Fashion Brand

As a classic apple shape, plus size woman, I have always been very conscious of my non-flat belly. While I’ve finally made peace with the way my belly looks, I still haven’t reached the point where I am comfortable showing it.

I decided to finally take the plunge and get myself the tunic. I won’t lie - until I got the tunic in my hand I was a tad bit apprehensive and nervous about my belly showing. However, once I wore the tunic, I realised that all the nervousness and doubt was in my head. There was nothing wrong with my visible belly.
Like some women are fair skinned and other are dusky, some are tall while others are short, similarly, some women have a flat belly while others, like me, have non-flat, round belly. And that is just fine. Women come in all shapes and sizes, and so do our bellies. We should not be ashamed or asked to hide our bellies just because they are not flat or washboard abs.

The Amydus tunic turned out to be a very wise and body positive investment for me. Not only did I get a new style and silhouette to add to my wardrobe but I was finally able to let go of my inhibition and get comfortable with my non-flat, round belly showing.

Plus Size Fashion | Layer It Up

“Where do you buy your clothes from?”– This is one question that I get asked on a regular basis. Considering the lack of availability and easy accessibility of quality plus size fashion in India, this question doesn’t surprise me at all. However, what does surprise and bother me is how so many Indian brands still ignore the needs and demands of over 50% of the nation’s population.

Plus Size Denim Shirt
Even though a large number of Indian brands still don’t have a size inclusive and body positive approach, there are a handful of brands that are making the effort to create stylish and affordable clothes for plus size women.  Along with making clothes, these brands are also helping build the confidence of many women who have struggled with body issues due to lack of clothes and mainstream representation.

Plus Size Denim Shirt
Personally, I’ve always struggled with finding clothes my size. However, this issue became even more obvious when I started fashion blogging. When a large part of your job depends on creating new looks, the lack of clothes can hamper your career. And to a large extent this has happened with me. It was only around late 2015- early 2016 that ready-to-wear plus size clothes were noticeably available.

Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
Unlike straight size women, we plus size women are not spoilt for choice. Therefore, it is very important to invest in clothes that are easy to mix-and-match and layer up.
Amydus is one such brand that offers a wide variety of pieces that have great styling and layering potential. Plus, the brand has figured out Indian sizing and what works for Indian plus size women. From Indian wear to party wear and formal wear, there is something for every occasion.

Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
I love wearing dress, but I was never a fan of belted dresses. I really liked this check shirt dress and was not letting the belt stop me from buying it. When I got the dress, I was planning to style it without the belt. However, the dress did not have the same impact without the contrast accent. I purely wore the belt for the colour pop. What surprised me the most was how the belt helped accentuate my curves and give a better structure to the dress. The belt completely changed the look of the outfit.

Body Positivity In India
With winter season finally arriving in India, wearing layers without the fear of breaking into a sweat inspired me to layer the dress with a denim shirt. The denim shirt gave the look a beautiful colour contrast without dominating the dress.
Both these pieces can be worn separately as well as can be used to layer. In fact, most pieces with front buttons can be used as a layer. That is why I prefer to invest in them.

Amydus - Indian Plus Size Fashion Brand
In a year full of trying out new styles and taking sartorial risk, this belted check shirt dress is another one to add to the grown list.

Plus Size Fashion | Go Glam Or Go Home!

I love December! It is hands down my fave month of the year. Not just because it is my (and my mother, father and kid brother’s) birthday month but also because everything around is bright and sparkling. The cool air is full of life, people are in high spirits and everyone is in a merry-making mood ready to bid adieu to the year gone by and to say hello to the new one awaiting us.
While the year may be coming to an end, the party season has just begun.

Nothing says holiday and festive glam quite like glitter and bling. As someone who loves both these things, any occasion is good enough for me to flaunt my treasured statement pieces and baubles.
While styling festive bling and party glam one needs to be mindful of not getting carried away and going over the top. If not careful, a look can go from tasteful to tacky in a heartbeat.
Like most women around the world, my party season staple is a little black dress as well. Depending on the occasion, the LBD can either be glammed up or down.

Taking a break from shifts and shirt dresses, I got myself a black skater dress from Amydus. I’ve always wanted to try out this silhouette and the festive season seemed like the perfect time to try it out.
The dress is a quintessential LDB. It can easily be glammed up or kept simple and chic depending on the occasion. Since I wanted to wear the dress for a friend’s cocktail party I decided to style my look with gold accessories. The classic combination of gold and black with a hint of red colour pop can never go wrong.

I am a huge maximalist who strongly believes in go big or go home. Not one to shy away from larger than life statement accessories, the LBD was the perfect companion to complement my bejewelled necklaces and embellished clutch. The simplicity of the dress balanced the dramatic accessories, creating a sophisticated and eye-catching look ideal for the party season.

Himalaya Winter Bundle

All through the second half of December and starting of January I was travelling. While some places were really cold, the others not so much. With the weather being different, I had to take care of my skin at all times.
To avoid all kinds of dryness, flaking, chapping, itchiness and tightness, I made sure I had the right products to keep my skin soft and hydrated.
I had a great experience with Himalaya’s Youth Eternity Range and decided to give their skincare and lip care range a try. The products I selected were keeping my skin type in mind and something that I could use post the winter season too.
Himalaya Skin Care And Lip Care

Himalaya Strawberry Shine Lip Care
This is the first time I am trying a lip balm from Himalaya Herbals. One of the main reasons why I decided to go for it is because it is enriched with 100% natural colour, Vitamin E and antioxidants. Plus, it is free from preservatives, petroleum jelly, mineral oil and silicone.
Himalaya Skin Care And Lip Care
On application it gives a delicate strawberry fragrance and a glossy finish and enhances your natural lip colour. What I really loved about this lip balm is, it is not heavy and sticky and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. The lip balm easily lasts for 4-5 hours, prevents moisture loss and offers complete hydration.
Himalaya Strawberry Shine Lip Care completely moisturises your lips and keeps them soft and supple.
Himalaya Strawberry Shine Lip Care

Himalaya Nourishing Skin Cream
When it comes to skin cream I tend to be very picky. Since I have oily skin and live in a humid weather a lot of skin creams don’t suit my skin type. Therefore, it is paramount for me to choose something that is oily skin and humid climate friendly.
Himalaya Winter Bundle
The main reasons why I chose Himalaya’s Nourishing Skin Cream is because it is light, non-greasy, easy-to-use daily cream, which provides all day moisturising, nourishment and protection and keeps the skin soft and supple for hours.
The cream is blended with the extracts of Aloe Vera, Winter Cherry, Indian Kino Tree and Indian Pennywort, which protect the skin from pollution and bad weather conditions, providing nourishment and adequate hydration. A major plus point for the skin cream is, it is dermatologically-tested and hypoallergenic.
Himalaya Nourishing Skin Cream

Himalaya Cocoa Butter Intensive Body Lotion
I won’t lie – I’m one of those women who doesn’t moisturise on a daily basis. I know it’s a bad habit that needs to change ASAP, but until that happens I make it a point to invest in a body lotion that gives my skin the much needed hydration.
Himalaya Skin Care And Lip Care
Himalaya's Cocoa Butter Intensive Body Lotion is ideal for me. It deeply moisturises, softens and smoothens the skin. Cocoa Butter's deep-penetrating, natural ingredients repair and nourish the skin as well as makes it supple and the Wheat Germ Oil restores the skin's elasticity, leaving it softer and more toned than before along with improving the skin texture.
The body lotion has a delicate smell that lingers for a while after application. The texture of the lotion is creamy and fluid, gets easily absorbed into the skin and doesn’t leave a sticky residue. This makes the body lotion ideal for not just dry but humid weather as well. Like all Himalaya products this one too is free of preservatives and harmful chemicals.
Himalaya Cocoa Butter Intensive Body Lotion
One thing I’ve learnt over the years is, it is very important to invest in good skin care products. Products that improve the skin quality over time and help keep it healthy and supple.
Himalaya products do not disappoint on that front. They offer the best skin and lip care in the harshest of weathers and help you to retain fresh and glowing skin at all times.

Plus Size Fashion | Sorbet Stripes

For years, the fashion industry world over has confined plus size women inside a very small box that limits her sartorial choices to the bare minimum and depriving her the joys of fashion.
Not anymore! As the saying goes, rules are meant to be broken, and it’s about time we break all those antiquated plus size style rules that are just begging to be demolished.

Some of the most debated and discussed plus size fashion questions are: Should plus size women wear stripes? What kind? Should they only wear vertical ones and avoid horizontal ones? Should the stripes be thin or thick? And so on.
Here’s the thing – plus size women can and should wear stripes. And yes, they can wear all types of stripes. However, just like any trend, it’s is very important to select a style that fits your body type best.
Plus Size Stripe Dress
I’ve been wanting to experiment with stripes and Afamado’s pastel stripe cold shoulder dress offered me the perfect opportunity.  The sorbet-flavoured colour palette instantly caught my eye.
How To Style Plus Size Stripes
I loved the clever juxtaposing of horizontal and vertical stripes. The empire waist line balances the the stripes in a way that the horizontal and vertical stripes complement each other. The overall dress is well-designed keeping plus size women of different sizes and shapes in mind.
Dresses For Plus Size Women
Another thing I loved about this dress is, it is very versatile. It is one of those dresses that can easily transform from day to night wear with minimum fuss and effort. Plus, the dress on its own is so striking, it requires very little accessorising.
Indian Plus Size Brand Afamado
Instead of paring the dress with a solid colour bag, I decided to do a print mix look and pair it with a floral tote and clutch.
For a day look I decided to pair the dress with a floral tote and add a necklace to it.
Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
For the night look, I swapped the tote with a floral clutch, and replaced the necklace with gold statement earrings and palm cuff. With just the simple changes the love can go from day chic to night glam.
Plus Size Stripe Dress
I’ve always worn stripes, but I have been a tad apprehensive about wearing horizontal stripes as well as mixing stripes. This dress completely changed that for me. Whether horizontal, vertical or diagonal, I have no qualms about wearing stripes or mixing them up.
How To Style Plus Size Stripes
The key to acing the stripe trend is by finding the right stripe proprotion for your body type. This is applicable for both straight and plus size bodies. Once you figured out the right stripe proportion for your body type and shape, the rest will fall into place.

I've said this before and I will say it again - fashion rules for plus size, curvy and fat women are nothing but a way to control their bodies and keep them out of the mainstream fashion narrative.
To all my dear plus size, curvy and fat sisters, please don't let these ridiculous, sizeist rules stop you for experimenting with fashion and taking sartorial risk. Wear what you like, how you like, and when you like. Life is too short to follow rules that are discriminatory towards you.

Poised, Professional and Plus Size

I’m the first woman in my family who has worked outside the house. My mother, her mother and her mother, never did that. I’m not the only one. Lakhs of Indian women from my generation happen to also be the first time working women. Women who have chosen to have a career and empower themselves with financial independence. With a wide array of career options now available, women are taking over. From corporate boardrooms to the political arena and from directing a movie to launching a space shuttle, Indian women are making their presence felt everywhere. And it is only fair she is dressed perfectly for her dream job.

How To Style Plus Work Wear Look
Indian fashion magazines and websites have done endless articles on work wear dressing. Articles telling Indian women what they should wear to look poised, professional and polished at the office. However, most of these articles favour western work-wear dressing and very often ignore Indian work wear dressing. With a large number of Indian women still preferring kurti and leggings and sarees over tops and pants/skirts and dresses, it is absolutely necessary the Indian working woman should have clothes in Indian silhouettes that are chic and work wear friendly.

Kurtis For Plus Size Women
Kurti, often referred to as tunic, in varying lengths is one of the most preferred Indian garment women wear to the office. For starters, the silhouette of the classic straight kurti is very comfortable and it can be paired with different types of bottoms. Most importantly, the silhouette of the classic side slit kurti complements all Indian body types making it a wardrobe staple for most Indian women.
Indian Plus Size Brand Amydus

A lot of my readers have been asking me to create an Indian work wear look. I finally decided to that. Instead of opting for a regular kurta, I choose this lace detail Amydus kurti. The two things I love about it: First, the colour. Navy works for both day and night. Second, the lace detailing. It adds an element of sexy without being in your face.
When it came to choosing a bottom to pair with the kurti I decided to skip the run of the mill churidar leggings and pants/jeans and instead opted for a printed palazzo. Since it was a look for the office, I decided to keep the the accessories to the bare minimum and only added a colour pop bag to enhance the overall look.
While both the kirti and palazzo are fluid silhouettes, their fluidity balanced each other out well.

Plus Size Fashion | Casual Chic

I’ve never worked in the corporate sector. My previous jobs – as a fashion designer, stylist and bridal consultant and now as a blogger and writer – have always been in the private space. None of my previous jobs ever had a dress code. However, since I worked in the fashion space I was always expected to dress well.
Plus Size Tops
Nowadays the line between formal and informal dressing is blurring with people mixing both up. Most professions don’t have strict dress codes like they did before. One can wear a pair of jeans with a crisp jacket for meeting or a trendy t-shirt with a pencil skirt. The healthy mix of formal and informal pairing has created a new work-wear dress code that is both, chic and comfortable.
How To Style Plus Work Wear Look
The key to smart casual work wear look is finding the right balance between formal and semi-formal or informal pieces. There needs to be that one piece that will balance the whole look.
Body Positive India
My current job as a blogger/influencer and writer gives me the freedom to dress up in a more relaxed manner. I am not obligated to follow a dress code. However, that doesn’t mean I show up for events or meeting in track pants and a gym tee. Depending on the occasion I have the liberty to pick and choose what I can wear.
Tops And Pants For Plus Size Women
As much as I love wearing dresses, pants are often a more convenient choice for a day on the go. And since I reside in a city that is permanently hot and humid layering can sometimes be cumbersome. Very often I just opt for a top and pants.
Indian Plus Size Brand Amydus
I spend a good amount of my times in meetings and I like to dress in a comfortable manner but at the same time look professional. For that reason, I have invested in a few pair of well fitted pants and tops. These pieces can easily be mixed and matched as well as layered up depending on the occasion.
Plus Size Fashion Blogger India
For a chic causal work wear look I have paired Amydus violet polka dot top with navy blue pants. To add some contrast to the look I decided to pair it with a funky and colourful folder and and finished the look with black brogues. The final look is casually comfortable but at the same time polished and professional too.

Summer Wedding Ready

$

Indian summer wedding season is upon us, which means endless sangeet dance practice, high intake of Indian mithais and pretty outfits to purchase. Whether you are going sea side for a costal affair or travelling out of the country for a destination soiree, the right outfits and accessories are on top of everyone’s checklist.
Should you opt for an out and out heavy Indian traditional ensemble? Or maybe an Indo-western look? Or play it safe with a classic saree? While the choices are endless the weather, sadly, is the biggest hindrance of it all.
As much as I love to adorn myself in the finest Indian silks, colourful brocades and lush embroidery, I keep all of this for the cold winter weddings. For summer weddings I prefer to keep my outfits light and fluid and glam up my look with statement jewellery and accessories. And there is nothing more glamorous than Indian jewellery.
While planning my summer wedding looks I came across Jivaana, a delightful treasure trove of jewellery and accessories. From traditional minakari and kunda sets to chic fashion bags to trendy juttis, Jivaana is your one stop shop for all your wedding accessories.
I was drooling over many of their pieces, but it is this Green Stone and Kundan Jewellery Set and Multicolor Navaratna Ring from Label Amara that caught my fancy.
I love the versatility of both these pieces. The jewellery set and the ring are a fine balance of classic Indian design and contemporary aesthetics. The styling potential is endless and these pieces can easily be pair with Indian wear, Indo-Western wear as well as Western wear.
For summer weddings I prefer fusion attire. I decided to style the jewellery set and ring with a printed handkerchief hem kurta that I styled as a dress. A cool colour palette ensemble to beat the heat. The blue of the kurta and the green of the jewellery complemented each other. Adding final touches to the look with the multicolor Navaratna statement right and a dash of dark red lipstick, the look is summer wedding ready.
The beauty of this jewellery set is it can be paired with any of the wedding functions outfits as well as for other semi-formal and formal occasions. What I like about the green stone and kundan necklace is, that it can be worn two ways. Depending on the look, you can either style it with the kundan side or turn it around and style it with the minakari design. The versatility of the necklace makes it a smart investment. The green stone and pearl earrings have a very Indo-western feel to it. They can be worn with the necklace or styled individually as well.
Other than the jewellery I was also very impressed with Jivaana’s bag collection. They have a wide array of potli bags and clutches.
Along with jewellery and juttis if you are looking to buy clutches online and potli bags online then Jivaana is the place to shop. Their collection is well-curated and has something for every occasion and season.

Plus Size Fashion | Ready For Eid

Ramazan is my most favourite month of the year. I love the whole spirit of the festive month. It is also the month of retrospection and deep connection with Allah. And like every Ramazan this one too has been a month of finding the answers I have been looking for.
It was in Ramazan of 2011 that I decided I want to start a fashion blog and pursue a career in fashion blogging. Some of my life's biggest, best and life changing epiphanies have occurred during Ramazan.
As much as I wish Ramazan lasted a little longer, I enthusiastically look forward to Eid celebration. It is a great way to spend time with family and relatives and celebrate the completion of yet another Ramazan.

Past experience has taught me to always plan in advance for Eid. With the last minute Eid rush, it becomes next to impossible to get anything stitched in time for it. This year I decided to skip my Eid staple, the traditional kurta chuddidar, and opt for something a tad bit different. Instead of getting a full suit stitched I decided to play mix and match and go with an all new Eid look for myself.

While browsing through one of my fave plus size shopping sites, Amydus, I found this bright yellow printed kurti. I loved the traditional silhouette with the on-trend off- shoulder sleeves. The kurti was a break from the run of the mill kurti without being too dramatic. The bright colour made it an ideal for a festive day. And since the kurti had no embellishments it could easily be styled post Eid for different occasions.

When it came to pairing the kurti I had a slight conflict. Originally I wanted to pair it with blue palazzo pants. Since I wanted a different look I finally opted for a printed skirt instead. I love mixing prints and the final look was just what I had in mind for Eid.

I love the fluidity and playfulness of the look. A classic Indian look with a modern stylised twist. And post Eid I can wear this look for any day monsoon wedding function. One of the main reasons why I opted for the kurti is because of its versatility. It can easily be paired with a number of bottoms as well as be layered up.

Like always I have had a wonderful and blessed Ramazan and I can’t wait to celebrate Eid. Here’s wishing you all Eid Mubarak. May the blessings of Ramazan carry forward year round.

Oriflame The One Colour Obsession Lipsticks Review

$

It is officially glam season in India. As the temperature drops, the festive wedding season gets into full swing. Casual clothes makes way for couture pieces, basic is replaced with bling, and warm hues are preferred over soft shades. With parties, weddings and social gathering every other day, creating new and different looks can be a task. However, with just the right makeup and accessories, you can effortlessly repeat any look you like.

Right in time to get you ready for the festive wedding season, Oriflame has launched The One Colour Obsession Lipsticks in 10 rich shades. The colour intensity of the lipstick is enhanced through ChromaLoad technology. The weightless gel crème formula makes it very easy to apply; the lipsticks melts on contact and give a luminous, glossy finish.

Product styling and photography by Roxanne D'souza of Head2Heels

What I love about this collection is, all the lipsticks are sheer and light textured and not heavily pigmented. After application they give a fresh, wet finish that gives the lips a delicate dewy look. The lipsticks offer up to 8 hour moisture and can last for a good 4 hours without touch up. This collection is ideal for anyone who likes to wear radiant and pop colours that are not too dark and pigmented after application. Plus, all 10 shades perfectly complement and suit all Indian skin tones.

RED RAGE
Red Rage is a vibrant red shade. This shade has a warm undertone and suits a large number of Indian complexions. It is a lovely shade of bright red without being too bold. Ideal for those who prefer to wear not too dramatic or statement making shade of red.

RED FEVER
Red Fever is a deep red shade with blue undertone. Reddish-brown in colour, Red Fever is a more subtle shade of red that can effortlessly be worn during the day and night.

PURPLE POWER
Purple Power is a rich purple shade that has a hint of wine to it. If you add a few extra swipes on top of your regular application, you can have a nice dark plum pout with this shade.

CHERRY CRAVE
Cherry Crave is a maroon shade with purple undertone. A stunning dark shade, Cherry Crave has all the appeal of oxblood without being too dramatic. Ideal for those who like to wear dark shades that are not too deep and pigmented.

PINK POSSESSION

Pink Possession is a pretty shade of pink with a coral orange undertone. A summer shade that works very well even in the festive winter season. Like me, if you have naturally pink lips, on application, the shade looks pinkish orange.

PEACH PASSION
Peach Passion is a delicate shade of peach. It is a very subtle shade that adds a hint of colour to the lips.

MAGENTA MANIA
Magenta Mania is a sultry hot pink shade. With deeper application you can get a sexy fuchsia pout with this shade.

CORAL CRAZE
Coral Craze is a pop shade of coral orange with pink undertone. This is a rich and radiant shade that looks great with both Indian and Western outfits.

TEMPTING ORANGE
Tempting Orange is a fiery orange shade with a hint of red.

NUDE APPEAL
Nude Appeal is a classic shade of nude. On application it enhances your natural lips colour and gives a delicate colourless glow to it.
